Claiborne served in many battles. In 1861, he was involved in Manassas (July 21, 1861) and Leesburg (October 21, 1861). During fighting at Garnett's Farm on June 27th, 1862, he was shot in his right hand and lost his index finger. He would be admitted to the hospital Camp Winder, Richmond, VA, then furloughed for thirty days, absent from fighting in both Savage Station and Malvern Hill.
He would return to service after Malvern Hill and was present at Sharpsburg (September 17th, 1862) and 1st Fredericksburg (December 11th, 1862). A day before his service at Chancellorsville (May 3rd, 1863) he was transferred to the 21st Mississippi Regiment and promoted to Chaplain. After Chancellorsville I don’t have many details of the remainder of his service. He was admitted to Stuart Hospital in Richmond for several days in February of 1865. And the last records I have show that Claiborne surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse April 8th, 1865.
