Mullins, S.C. Sept. 1962.

Dear Cousin Claiborne,

Your nice letter came and I did appreciate it. I planned to write you right back but so many things came up.

Our son, who works in the same bank with my husband, had phlebitis and was in bed at home for a week and later a week in the hospital. He is up and back at work now, however, he has to lie off that leg as much as he can and also go back for checks at regular intervals. During his sickness, I tried to keep our two grand-children so his wife could be with him. That kept me pretty busy. I get very little done when they are around.

I did go to Lumberton as I wrote you I planned to do. They have in their library there many books but I was not able to find much help. I guess I didn’t know how to go about finding it, therefore I don’t feel that I accomplished much by going.

I wrote Mrs. Huggins in Raleigh in regard to my Edens line (my mother was an Edens) and at the same time I asked her if she had found anything further about Angus McDonald. She said she had not but let me know if she did. If we could just get his parents who lived on the Isle of Skye and whether they came to America with him. I keep trying and let’s hope we shall find this link. Also, there are so many marriage dates I need but where to find them is the unanswered question.

The market here takes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week as holidays. The factories are running day and night and yet they can’t take care of the sales, so the warehouses decided it best to close for those three days. I feel sure the crop is about three fourths good now. Would like to see them go ahead and finish up but I guess they know best.

My sister who lives in Manning, S.C. knew a very nice lady from Picayune, Miss.

She lived in Manning for a while and went back to Picayune. I can't remember the name. She has told me. Do you happen to know someone who lived in S.C. for a while? If so, ask her if she knew Mrs. J. Oscar Rogers, Sr.

I had a letter today which gives more information on the John McDonald line so I am sending a copy on to you to be added to what I mailed you. Hope this will help to complete his (John's) direct line. Hope you are getting along real well with your history. I am looking forward to some day buying a copy of it.

Do hope you and all your family are well. Write me again. Best wishes to all.

Most sincerely,

Your Cousin,

Estalena M. Goodyear
